Hi all.
So I currently have a Samsung 850 EVO SSD, which had Windows 10 installed on it. One day, after a Windows update, a new boot greeted me with an 'Error Loading OS' error upon boot.
I installed Windows 7 (did not have installation media for Windows 10) on another hard drive I had. However, with the SSD connected, the computer literally started snailing. It took almost 15 minutes to bootup to the desktop (with 2-3 minutes on the POST screen, where the motherboard's logo is shown). Before the OS corruption on the SSD, my computer had a bootup time of roughly 8 seconds. I never used Samsung's Magician before either. Now when I finally got into my desktop, the SSD would NOT show up in the Disk Management facility, neither Samsung's Magician software. Both could not detect the SSD. The device manager, however, could detect the SSD, but (and this was all done in a veryyyy slow speed, I mean like a minute to load a program). I managed to get into the Volume tab on the properties shown in dev manager, but it could not be populated. Now I disconnected the SSD, and man, all the snail speeds went away. My computer started operating at normal speeds you can obtain with an HDD. The SSD also showed up in BIOS, but obviously could not be booted from. The diskpart command would not find the SSD either, when it was connected.
After two long days of troubleshooting myself, I decided to secure erase the disk itself. Hopefully, it would clean the drive and possibly allow it to be detected by Windows Installations, and the disk management.
Now Secure Erase picked the 850 EVO up alright, but when secure erasing it, it would show me "Erasing..." and after almost 20 seconds, give me an error that "Secure Erase Failed: Unable to Set Password. Try Again."
Now I tried using Parted Magic, but heck, it could not even detect the SSD, let alone erase it.
I feel very much out of options here. I tried switching SATA Ports, SATA Cables, every single thing I could think of. Even in Windows Installation, the SSD is not detected as a drive you could format and install windows to.
And now I finally turn my hopes to you guys. Maybe you can help me out here? The main problem is the fact that I cannot secure erase it with Samsung's Secure Erase Tool (through DOS, either). Why does it show me an "Unable to Set password Error"? Is there any way to get this removed? All help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
P.S: The SSD was first hand. It is not frozen, as per what I can see through Samsung's Secure Erase Utility. Its not password locked either.
