Samsung SSD incompatibility

I was on Newegg looking at the Asus Maximus VII Hero reading reviews. It seems that the Samsung Evo M.2 SSD is incompatible as a boot drive. I was thinking about getting the EVO, only I don't know what M.2 means and if the EVO I want is M.2. I'm fairly new to this and any help would be greatly appreciated.

M.2 is a form factor. It can have many uses such as for a m.2 ssd or wifi module. It's interface can be with PCIe lanes, SATA etc...
The SSD you linked is the standard 2.5 inch SSD SATA drive. This should be fine still as a boot drive.

Mobos that support M.2 have a slot on the mobo. Its similar to msata but more recent / and faster
