I had two (2) Samsung 870 QVO 8TB SSD's that were installed in an Akitio Thunder3 Duo Pro set to RAID 0. I've removed them for installation in a new Terramaster DAS Thunderbolt duo enclosure. They need to be formatted before installation in the new enclosure. When I place them into an external USB 2.5" enclosure to format, Windows 11's Disk Manager shows one (1) drive to be 10.8TB (each is only 8TB) and the second 870 QVO 8TB SSD to be 1.8TB. I've tried to format both, but Windows stops in the middle of the format and says it can't format the either drive. Disk manager initializes both SSD's and Windows File Explore sees them but won't open until each is formatted. However, Disk Manager will NOT delete or resize any partition on either drive. Any insight into why the drive volumes are so different from capacity or why Windows can't format the drives, would be greatly appreciated.

It appears that your enclosure is affected by a 32-bit LBA limitation.

8 TB - 6 TiB = 1306 GiB

Also, your OS is looking at the existing partition information on the first member of the RAID 0 array to determine the capacity of the drive instead of querying the drive itself. Once you delete this old partition info, I fear you will encounter the 32-bit LBA limit for this drive, too.

In short, you have two different problems.

If you wish to avoid the command line, you could download DMDE (a freeware disc editor). In DMDE's Partitions tab, either toggle MBR On/Off or GPT On/Off. This will invalidate the partition metadata, and Windows will then see a blank drive (after safely ejecting and reinserting it).

Thanks for all the input. I reset the RAID enclosure to non-RAID and both drives appeared individually. However, each time I tried to format the drive or delete volumes or partitions, I got error messages stating parameters were incorrect or partition was not created by Windows. I then installed AOMEI Partition Assistant and was able to delete partitions and format each drive to their 8TB capacity. Once again, thanks for all the responses and input.
