Hello,

I own a Samsung Syncmaster 305t and it is capable to go to 2560x1800 resolution. When I connected the dual-link DVI cable to my AMD Radeon HD 7800 Series Graphics Card, It can only display 1280x800. Whatever resolution higher then 1280x800 it will not display.

I do have the option of increasing it to 2560x1800 but by doing so, the screen turns grey, white, blue, and red in a loop. So I then press ENTER to go back to 1280x800.

according to AMD's website, my graphics card does support 2560x1600 and I do have the correct dual-link DVI-D cable plugged in.

Device manager shows "Generic PnP Monitor" under "Monitors" which is updated to the latest driver.

Other forums have suggested a windows 7 driver issue. Some have said that when plugging in the Syncmaster, a Driver automatically downloaded but did not for me. I then looked online for the driver to manually install but there seems to be no drivers available for the Syncmaster 305t.

I tried shutting off the monitor and turning back on with no success.

I unfortunatly don't have any other devices to test this monitor because of the fact that it only has 1 dual-link DVI port (not many people around me have desktops :S)

After looking online, the only results I found was that most people did not have a compatible Graphics card but it doesn't seem to be my case.

any help would be greatly appreciated to get this monitor to display 2560x1600!

recap of my specs:
Windows 7 Ultimate
Processor: AMD FX(tm)-4300 Quad-Core Processor @ 3.80GHZ
Graphics Card: AMD Radeon HD 7800 Series
RAM: 8 GB
System Type: 64-bit

Hello and thank you for your response.

AMD drivers are all up to date. I have tested the cable with another device and a different computer and it works well. Like mentioned earlier, if it was driver I would have loved to be able to download one for the 305t but looked online with no luck. A question that might narrow it down is if the monitor works well on 1280x800 what would stop it from displaying 2560x1600 if every other factor is working?
I believe it's a windows 7 or driver issue but need assistance in figuring it out. Thank again

Make sure you are using the correct DVI cable. Also check for refresh rate options, you may need to lower it to run at that resolution.

Did you test the cable with another computer or the monitor? Really need to test the monitor in another syste, it's almost 10 years old, may just be failing.

Hello and thank you for the response,

I am using the correct DVI-D cable is being used. Refresh rate just has 1 option of 60 Hz.

I tested the cable and it works with other monitors. I agree that it is old, but it is exactly why I'm trying to deduct if it might be the monitor and if it is, what can be done to fix it. Thanks again for the response.

You need to test the monitor with another system, not just the cable.

Hello again,

I tried with a different system running windows 7 Ultimate also using a different DVI-D cable and I still was not able to get over 1280x800 resolution unfortunately.

Did you try another connection or does it only have DVI? Does the cable you are using have pins in a bank of 9 then space then another 9 or a solid bank of 24? If the monitor maxes out at the same resolution on all systems, I'd say it's a bad monitor. Maybe try a reset to factory settings on it.

It only has 1 DVI-D connection which has the full 24 pins and the bar but without the pins surrounding the bars. The screen connector also does not have the holes for the pins surrounding the bar. Unfortunately there is no way of resetting the factory settings on this screen as it only has 3 buttons (power button, brightness increase and brightness decrease).
