Question Samsung SyncMaster 913v not working with my Lenovo ideapad

The monitor is being detected by my laptop and I can set it up as a second screen and everything but the SyncMaster doesn't display anything on it. I know the screen on the monitor itself isn't broken because when I press the "MENU" button on it the screen displays a little "Test Good" graphic in the top left. I'm using a 1080p HDMI female to VGA male adapter to connect the screen to the laptop. I have already tried updating the drivers but it says that it is already up to date.

If you have an idea of what could be causing this please help!

The HDMI-to-VGA adapter you are using may not be an "active" one, could be just a simple port adapter.

Since HDMI is digital and VGA is analog, you need an "active" adapter which converts digital output to analog input via built-in converter chip:
