Samsung T220 vs 2343bwx

I just picked up pair of Samsung T220s from Costco for $259. As I was walking out, I was handed the flyer for next weekend. They have the Samsung 2343BWX next weekend for the same price with coupon. Should I return the T220s and get the 2343BWXs? One computer has a GTX260 and the other is a 7600GT. Both of them will eventually end up on the GTX260 machine.

I heard Costco was going to be offering the 2343BWX for the same price as the T220 too! I bought the T220 over the 2253LW about two weeks ago. (Unfortunately it's still in the box unopened as I've been too busy with work and college to play with it yet!)

I was just comparing the stats on all three monitors from Samsung's site. I originally picked the T220 (over the 2253LW) because it's height measurement was a bit bigger. In comparison, the height of the T220 is also larger than the 2342BWX as well.

To me the height is important as I'm not really impressed with wide screen monitors in general. (I prefer a square screen for the vertical real estate.) If however a higher resolution and VESA mount is more important than the height, the 2324BWX would probably be the better choice. Otherwise, HDCP, low power consumption, brightness, contrast ratio and viewing angle for the T220 and 2343BWX are fairly comparable.

Other thoughts:
I hear the 2343BWX has two USB ports on the stand. As well, I believe it has a better pixel density: 7,077,888 versus 5,292,000 TFT-LCD sub pixels (about 98 pixels per inch versus 90 pixels per inch compared to the T220). The T220 though looks a bit 'sexier' if you will with the rose bezel and black chassis (compared to the black chassis of the 2343BWX and 2253LW). When I was in Costco tonight they didn't have the 2343BWX out on display (they were boxed) to check the movement of the stand. I don't believe the stand will give too many options though as the T220 only allowed backwards tilt (almost a negative especially considering no VESA mount option). It appears to me the height of the 2343BWX is smaller than the 2253LW and the T220. I would like to see both of these hooked up and a comparison made between both. The next time I'm in Costco I'm bringing a tape measure!

Thanks for the information, Jeremy. Regarding your feelings about widescreens, I think you'd prefer the T220 as it is 16x10 rather than the 16x9 the 2343bwx.

I'm going to hit the local Costcos and see if I can find one set up. I'll report back if I do.

So, just an update. I have both here.

They are both are pretty nice.

The screen sizes are approximately 11 7/8 x 18 3/4 (T220) vs 11 3/8 x 20 1/8. (2343bwx). So, with the inch difference in rated size and going from 16:10 to 16:9, you lose about half an inch in vertical space, but gain 1 3/8 an inch horitizonally.

The T220 is definately "sexier" with the dark red accent, the clear edges and the curved bezel. While they both have the soft touch or whatever they are power buttons, the T220 has "real" buttons on the side. The 2343bwx has the soft touch buttons on the front. Both seem equally functionally, but the wins simply due to them being in the front so I don't have to look around the side. The bezel on 2343bwx is square and black with a glossy finish. Much more utilitarian.

The picture on both looks great. No dead pixels on either one. I tried gaming on both of them and the difference between 2 and 5 ms wasn't apparent.

It's really a toss-up between the two, save one thing. The T220 wobbles. I'd read this in other reviews and they aren't kidding. If you bump the desk, it wobbles both with greater amplitude and longer duration than the other. Even the act of typing on my fairly stable desk causes slight wobble on the T220 that isn't appear on the 2343bwx. I think that is going to be the deciding factor.

Hope that helps anyone who was wondering. By the way, Costco had a couple of pallets of them and around here, it wasn't any more busy than one would find an a normal weekend.

I have two lcd monitors of the 16:10 aspect ratio and am very happy with it; but with the specifications of the 2343bwx, I would go with it if I am to get another lcd monitor. The price of the 2343bwx is now the same with the T220 and what the 2343 lacks in height it more than compensate for it's width and resolution. It is really a big bang for the buck; but the deciding factor for me is the base/stand of the 2343 which is sturdy compared with wobbly stylist design of the T220 (which is also the reason why my two lcd's are not samsung), also the height and pivot adjustment of the 2343 are really a great plus for multitasking activities. One good example is when your watching videos and at the same time working on spreadsheets or just simply browsing. I find this very useful if I want to preview a downloaded movie and somebody is workingon the pc and I don't want to open another pc. It's like having two 17" lcd's with a very high resolution on top of each other.
You can save on electricity and greatly improve the efficiency of your system as well as improve your with your friend or love one!

Another plus for the 2343bwx is the panel itself. The 2343 is a Samsung panel while the T220 is a Chimei panel.

Can anyone confirm or deny that the 2343BWX has an adjustable stand? I have the 2043BWX which does and some pictures so the 2343 with one and others without. The newer ones at a local store did not have an adjustable stand. Thanks.

From what I heard costco has their products made out of cheaper parts, so I would stay away from them.

This model does not have an adjustable stand!! I just bought one not realizing that and mine gives the impression that it is leaning FORWARD. This does not make for good viewing. I can't yet comment on the picture because I spent so much time trying to get the stand "fixed". I called Samsung and was told there is an adjustable stand for this monitor. NOT TRUE - just try to find one.

I currently have a Samsung T260. i love it, the whole series is amazing... movies and digital drafting on it are breathtaking... recently i have been looking at the SAMSUNG 2343BWX. and it intrigues me.. the high density res. i have a laptop with a 15.1 inch screen, with high density res 1680x1050. and thats really nice to look at.. i am debating using my t260 for movies, and getting the SAMSUNG 2343BWX. but bottom line, you cant go wrong with the T220s. the series is beautiful. however.. if you have a GTX260. a higher res, higher density might be nice.

I have the Samsung SyncMaster T220 and it works great for gaming. It does wobble when ever I happen to bump the computer desk but so what. The picture quality is the most important aspect when it comes to LCD monitors.

well, i have both too (have for a while; sorry for not updating). i was going to take the t220 back because of the stand wobble. but in the end, i figured it was such a nice monitor, i might find a use for it later. so, the 2343 is hooked up to my gaming PC and the t220 is on the business machine (replaced a 930b; which is now serving duties next to the 2343 on the gaming rig). both are great monitors!

i've currently decided to setup the t220 up with my PS3 and am looking to wall mount it (since the business machine isn't used as much after we got a netbook). wall mounting requires an adapter (Part Number: WMB1900T; http://www.samsungparts.com/part_detail.asp?catalog_name=Parts+and+Accessories&product_id=WMB1900T&search_model=T220) which can be found on Amazon, Buy, etc.
the wall mount adapter (seems like it should have been included or cheaper; really both) should allow it to be attached to a vesa wall mount!

My previous monitor was a samsung T220 and it worked great. I have to say the color was good for a TN panel but im not so sure about the 2343BWX.
