Just got this new external drive and its currently plugged into a usb 3.0.
As I am transferring files I am seeing it max out at 325mbps while transfering a 70gb folder from my C drive which is a samsung 970 evo 1Tb.

How do I get it to run the advertised 500+mbps or closer to that?

Other specs:
i7-8700k
Auorus Pro Z390
Ripjaws 2x8gb 3200 c14
970 evo 1Tb OS drive
2x 850 evo 500Gb Storage drives

500+ applies only to a large sequential transfer. Are you transferring one big zip file or lots of smaller ones? Smaller one transfer slower. The smaller the slower is the general rule.

You may also have to install your windows chipset drivers. which is where the USB3 drivers live.

Thanks for the reply.
-I was copying a folder that had many sub folders and files, using Windows copy/paste.
-I definitely updated all chipset drivers when I installed Win10, is that not something that would keep up to date with Win updates though?
-I found a thread elsewhere with someone saying the drives come formatted as exFAT and they suggested to reformat as NTFS. The OP got better results in a benchmark test after that.
I don't honestly know the difference between format types or how they use and size "blocks" or if it matters. Should I bother with trying it? Or is 325mbps as good as it gets while transferring lots of small files?
