Hi TH forums,

So to give some background information. I'll be returning to college soon and am looking for an external storage drive mostly for simple tasks such as word, excel, as well as gaming (WoW, VTM: Bloodlines, Deus Ex: 2001, Overwatch). I currently plan to live on campus and have a 128gb ssd gaming laptop to game while i'm on campus. Half my week i would spend back home there in which i have a fairly descent gaming desktop.

My reason for an external drive is so that i can leave my laptop at the dorms while i visit home for the weekend.

My question is whether i should go for the Samsung T5 or the Samsung 860 evo with an external enclosure (sata iii to type c). Also, would using an enclosure adapter somehow bottleneck the 860 evo? What would you folks recommend? (Both are fairly close in price so price is not a factor)

Thanks in advance.

The Samsung T5 is an enclosure with adapter and a Samsung mSata SSD ( as is the T3 ). So your choices are: get a Samsung drive and a 3rd party enclosure or.. buy a Samsung drive with a Samsung enclosure.. In both cases the internal drives can be re purposed if need be in the future ( in one case a Samsung 860 EVO Sata, in the other case a Samsung mSata ( which may be the mSata version of the 860 Evo )
