Samsung TV not displaying at 60Hz

I recently picked up a 40" Samsung UHD TV (model JU640D). It is advertised as having 120 Motion Rate, or as far as I understand 120Hz Effective, 60Hz true refresh rate. However, hooked up to my EVGA GTX 980, I cannot get it to display more than 30Hz.
I have the device type set to DVI PC and I am using a high speed HDMI plugged into the HDMI/DVI port on the TV.
When I try set it to 60Hz (in either the display adapter settings, or the Nvidia control panel resolution settings) the enitre image distorts, like its displaying an improper resolution, and the colors become horribly distorted, similar to the colorize setting in photoshop.
I am unsure how to fix this, as I would really like to get it displaying at higher than 30Hz.

Feel free to ask any further questions in case I left anything out.
Thank you all for your help

Well it seems to be the hdmi cable because hdmi 1 or 1.2 may not provide enough bandwidth for that resolution at that refresh rate , try to use the display port if you can , and if not , use a hdmi 2 cable to make sure that it's from the cable.
And post the results here

Right, so I should be able to get 60Hz actual refresh rate. however I cannot get it above 30Hz

I'm having the same problem as you, using KS8000 65 inch and GTX 1060 with new HDMI 2.0 capable cable. I have a separate thread going but no solutions. I'll post here if I come across anything. Currently pending "escalated" samsung tech support, have already had 2 lengthy sessions over phone and chat with them, and one with NVIDIA. Nothing yet.
