To date, the only PCIe Gen 4 M.2 SSD to have a 2TB capacity is Sabrent's Rocket 4 Plus

That's not true. Seagate's Firecude 520 has been available in 2TB capacity for a while, I've had mine since July.

Having said that, I'm not impressed with that drive. I look forward to replacing it with the 980 Pro 2TB.

Those are PCIe 3, not PCIe 4. The 980 Pro would be at least twice as fast (for sequential access).

I did not say they are Gen 4 . I was explaining that OEM will give you higher capacities than retail.
That drive is comparable to 970 pro .. have you seen any 970 pro SSD with 4 , 8 and 16 TB?

980 pro OEM versions will come , and upto 16 TB as well

It's not a secret you can get Samsung OEM SSDs. But you claim they are available in 16 TB capacity. I'm interested! I trust you would be so kind to post a link where I can go buy a M.2 2280 NVMe 16 TB SSD. I'd love to get me one. Thank you!

Speaking of 980 Pro, every time I open Magician, there's a 980 Pro ad right there in the corner...
That was dirty, Samsung; to include an add in your recent Magician update. I did not pay a premium to get a 'free ad' in your free software.

USAFRet, put on your glasses and read again the request. M.2 2280.

I know you can get all sorts of capacity in other formats, but the 980 Pro is M.2 2280, that's what we are taking about here.

Yes, I read it.
That is why I purposely put the "U.2" in there.

Same speed as an M.2 NVMe, just a slightly different connector.

Really? And you didn't notice it's also "slightly" more bulky and wouldn't fit in places where M.2 2280 would fit such as laptops?

Anyway, thank you for chiming in, but I think I'll stick to the 980 Pro 2 TB.

I sincerely apologize for giving a similar capacity and performance alternative.

I'll leave it to you and nofanneeded to hash out the (lack of) availability of an actual 16TB M.2 NVMe.

READ THE PDF AGAIN

SCROLL DOWN TO THE TABLE

Samsung PM983 NF1 specifications

THE NF1 IS M.2 NVME SSD with upto 16 TB of storage .

it is 110mm length not 80mm length

so it is M.2 22110

Link

https://www.samsung.com/us/labs/pdfs/collateral/Samsung-PM983-NF1-Product-Brief-final.pdf

it is M.2 , not U2 !!!

Call Samsung and they will send you one.

Actually, it is 30110, not 22110. A little bit fatter.

I've seen that PDF, thank you kindly. But there's no "buy" button there. I was wondering where I can actually buy this M.2 2280 NVMe 16 TB SSD right now because the 980 PRO is M.2 2280, and that's what would fit in my system. So where can I buy this 16 TB wonder?

Apology accepted, USAFRet, but I have to confess to great surprise at the sight of you trafficking in U.2 drives all of a sudden. It was only yesterday that you were trying to convince me that the best drive to install Windows on is SATA SSD. :sneaky:

Not trafficking in U.2.
Just providing info on a potential 16TB SSD, with speed beyond SATA III.

Which I, personally, would not buy. Not for many many years.
There are much much better ways to handle that sort of capacity.

I never said it is M.2 2280 ... it is 110 length. and if you want it order it direct from Samsung. or try to find some one who sells Samsung OEM SSD .

any ways ,

@USAFRet

Nice find :) I will borrow your link

Why would you spend x2 or x3 for the Pro version though? The 970 EVO Plus 2TB is at a great price point and professionals will be upgrading every couple of years. Gen 4 is too new and honestly I can't think of a professional task that requires such speed, even video editing unless you're working on 20 different projects per day or something.

No. The 8TB and 16TB drives from Samsung are larger than standard and won't fit where a NVMe 2280 drive is expected.
Samsung is already offering 4TB 2280 drives in the OEM space, though. There are 8TB 2280 drives available from Sabrent and Corsair. If capacity (over speed) is what you want, Samsung isn't the place to look for now.

still I did not say it is 2280 ... and it fits in 22110 M2 slot by the way .. That what I meant. it is like some GPU cards are wider and they still fit in 16 lanes slot .

Here is the 4TB version of it

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Samsung-MZ...CIe-3x4-V4-M-2-22x110mm-SSD-4tb-/224125672703

They fit in 22110 ...

For once I agree with you USAFRet! I'm being a bit facetious with nofanneeded, I don't need 16 TB on my primary drive, it would indeed be overkill and impossible to justify... at least for now. But I would buy a 4 TB M.2 2280 NVMe PCIe 4 drive, a fast one. That, I would buy. I've only seen one so far, but it emphasized capacity and not performance.

But things change fast in this world. I still remember by 20 MB (yes, MB!) Seagate drive from the mid-80, and what a luxurious capacity it was at the time!
Why is why I said "Not for many many years. "

Currently, I have 3x 1TB SSD. Soon to be 4. (among the other drives in it)
And the NAS has 50TB in or attached to it.

16TB on a single drive in a laptop? Nope.
