Samsung's Next Nexus Phone Codenamed ''Superior''

Phone handsets have become stupidly expensive because they can get away with it. But personally I think the market is flooded with units that are far in excess of hardware specs that people need for what they want to do.

I am hoping that Samsung release a phone with similar specs to the GSIII but with a slightly smaller screen for WP8. That would do me nicely. I just think that their launch WP8 device will actually be no better than the older Nexus and therefore will just lack that sense of WOW factor.

Why would Samsung make a WP8 phone?

Because they already announced two of them actually. Also they've been one of the builders of WP7. So whats your point exactly?

If it is 'between' two models it is clearly not 'Superior' 🙂


 


Well I'm not sure that "Superior" is supposed to reflect the next Nexus phone to its counterparts, but. Software side and somewhat hardware sided, the I9260 is superior. Most devs will work with the next GNEX phone and hardware sided, the A9 is clocked slightly higher while the size is more fit to most consumers @ 4.65" and the camera is improved from the previous GNEX. I've always liked the GNEX designs so maybe this'll replace my current Mytouch 4G Slide.
 
Micro-SD slot has my attention. Faster GPU and larger battery and I'm sold. The CPU on the GNex is already plenty fast for what is asked of these phones today. If they stay under $400 it will be a hot seller.

This IS Samsung you are talking about. You know, the company that was dumb enough to think it could blatantly copy Apple and not have to pay for it.

It's important to note that there are different models of the S3. The international version is the quad-core with Enyxos being sold around $600 off-contract. While Sprint, AT&T, Verizon, T-mobile sell the 1.5Ghz dual-core at the subsidized $199 price. You go on to say how the new Nexus will probably be cheaper than the S3 because it uses the dual-core chipset. With a 2-year contract, I would think the price would be the same $199. Off-contract, if they could retain the same pricing as the current Nexus being sold on Google Play ($350), that would be awesome as the dual-core S3 is sold through the major carriers for $550.
 
So they are gong to call it the S-phone, for superior phone. That name is a little to close to the iPhone which is short for inferior phone.

It's hard to much stock into this article considering the above quotation. The reason Samsung and just about every other manufacturer hasn't used a quad core cpu is because there are no ARM quad core cpu's with LTE built-in yet. That should change sometime between October to December.

On another note:
I am hoping the one of the next Nexus smartphones will have:
Samsung Exynos 5 or Qualcomm Krait MSM8960T (Both have LTE)
2GB RAM (DDR2) - wish quad channel memory would be available but will not
SD Slot
2500-3000Mah Battery
Jelly Bean (which should be a given).
I can wait a few months before Key Lime Pie (no big deal, unlike my Atrix where I have waited 1 year to upgrade from 2.3 to only ICS. Moto, could you please step your game up (that includes you too ATT ).
 
Dudes, it's just a codename, meaning for internal company use. It's NOT going to be released under any of these names.
And WTF does it matter what name is released under? It will be a good Nexus phone, no doubt, it will have some hefty competition from the other makers, no doubt. and it will be for the consumer's benefit. The biggest benefit will be the plain vanilla OS. Devs will be all over it, and THAT for sure will be for the consumer's benefit.
 
I think this is a good move by Google. They are probably entering low to mid range price points and handset like what they're doing with the Nexus 7.
I can see this is good idea for the following 3 reasons:
1) leaving the higher profit(price points) to the OEM to compete with, Google can make money with software.
2) Nexus(pure Android) having a lower price point so more people can adapt to it easier.
3) show that the Android OS does not need the latest and greatest hardware in order to run smoothly.

I can't wait for the latest Nexus phone to price at $200, I will be all over it. A man can dream, can he 😉
To Google, just shrink Nexus 7 to ~4" and add in radios, tata.

all android phones have crappy battery....if they have good battery life they will make up for it with a crappy screen
