invention (disclosed here june 14 2011): dynamic discoball for nightclubs. sphere covered in flex amoleds capable of full range display. display processor contained inside sphere. in a seperate embodiment, the same concept could be used for a dynamic globe.

invention 2: morphographic imagery (mostly porn). area underneath screen is an array of rods that can each raise or lower beneath the screen and can be controlled individually (rods would optimally be linked to a maximum adjacent separation to avoid literal screen tearing). areas of screen could be raised or lowered to take on shapes that match the displayed imagery (for example, 2 mounds could be raised in the screen at the location of breasts) the invention would add tactile feedback to appropriate media (could be used in conjunction with variable texture surfacing as is being developed for touch screens)

also, these screens could be potentially used for active camoflauge for organisms or vehicles, or simply entertaining clothing.

360 degree coffee mug display

a flex tv could allow for a wider viewing angle for crowds, or a narrower one for privacy.

a flag could be made of flex amoleds and displayed outside the un, where it cycles through the flags of all member nations.

i totally dig a e reader with flexible display...
get it out and read a couple of articles books or get yourself updated with the newspaper
it will feel like reading from a paper
when done put it in your bag or a folder without worrying it will break!

Cylindrical kiosks at the mall. Rotating ads means more ad revenue. Through in touch sensors and you getting more ad revenue because "touchable ads" could then direct you to the appropriate location in the mall. (Or more in depth ads.)

When you Steve Jobs shows off these ads on a cylindrical iPhone, remind me to sue him.

for one, you cant fold these. you can roll them, but not fold them.

second, the application i want most is a screen that don't break if its dropped for 6 feet on concrete. i don't care about scratched, but break is not acceptable.

every one comes up with such un practical applications for these screens. like see through... what would the point be besides being "cool" and expensive, most of the time (if not all) you would be looking at your hand or lap. putting a flat screen in your pocket? no, that would be un practical, basically forever, because of the high chance to tear the product, ruin your cloths while taking it out, or the batteries needed to store. it would be more practical to make it a wristband at that point, with the batteries part by your palm side, controlling how tight it is, and on the back side, displaying time, a phone, video amongst other things, most likely for spots people who want to keep track of vital sings portably.

what im saying is please, dont think of 15-25 years down the line, think of the now, its more exciting that way. and also dont think of stupid ideas, like a clear scree, think of practical applications.

if you wrapped a bunch of these on a tank or humvee and the led displayed shifting images corresponding to the area and ground it is on would that qualify as cloaking technology?

Theyve been showing these since forever. I remember seeing these being shown back in like 2008 or something. They still havent done anything with it.

they have, but you are pointing out a consumer application, not a porfecional or lab use one.

the point is, their is almost no application of this for consumers, asside from a thinner more durable phone screen, but not bendable like they are showing off, just able to withstand a moron poking it to hard.

Concave curves can be used for a feeling of immersion. Stuff like this:

--only on a smaller scale at first. But, eventually making this super cool technology affordable. Yeah, it will probably take a decade to get the big sized stuff, but even a smaller hand held version could look kind of VR-ish.

No... No parallax.

Scrollable, not foldable. The slightest fold will ruin the whole thing. Rest assured this is the main reason why you haven't seen any consumer device with flexible screens yet. Once reliability is there, through better materials, we will see a plethora of scrollable displays.
