I was filling out RMA info when they released the firmware. I'm still contemplating just because I don't know if I can't trust the company. Whoever said the problem wasn't critical has NO IDEA what they're talking about.

I've probably put 50h and a lot of conversations in over the last 2 months delaing with this problem. Fortunately I haven't had a problem since the new FW.

P.S. Yes they were regular BSODS evenly spaced and often. For me about once every 2 days.

Plenty of people have had issue free SSD's. They don't fail at the rate platter drives do. Intel X series were not as fast but have had very few issues. Same with Crucial. None of the Marvell controllers have had this hard of a time with their controllers. SSD's are ready for prime time. Anyone who says they aren't probably isn't willing to shell out the $$$$ for one. The performance (even a slower model) is so much better than a platter drive, it's sick. I have 2 and I love them. OCZ products are more about the marketing than quality. I wouldn't want an OCZ anything...SSD,PSU. Intel(510) and COrsair(AX) are the only way to go. Gigabyte boards and I never had had bad Kingston Hyper X ram. The same holds true for MSI GPU's. Go get 'em!!!

[citation][nom]gogogadgetliver[/nom]Happened 3 times in the first week I owned it. Minor MFT corruption happened on the first two. Outright data loss on the 3rd.So...Yes, it's critical (as failing storage almost always is)No, Sandforce is not more reliable ... you've been living under a rock. Why would anyone not want one?I dunno, why would anyone not want a Ferrari that has no lugnuts?[/citation]
So you were unlucky and got one defective SSD out of a batch of 1,000 working ones. This happens just as much with the 2nd generation Intel X-25M SSD's as it does with Sandforce controllers. Sandforce-based SSD's have always been known for their reliability since the first Sandforce controller was introduced. If you're looking for an enterprise grade SSD then Sandforce is the one and only controller that should be considered.

Ok if I got one defective SSD out of 1,000 working ones then WTF did they fix with this firmware genius?

/logic facepalm.

How can you say they've been known for their reliablility and compare them with another unreliable SSD? Sandforce SF-2281 reliability has been horrible. If we want to swap anecdotes about it then I'll enlist the support forums of each SF-2281 OEM, newegg reviews and all the like.

"If you're looking for an enterprise grade SSD then Sandforce is the one and only controller that should be considered." You sound like an utter shill with that statement. I wouldn't even consider an sf2281 for a consumer solution. Check back with me again after their next hardware release.

Have you checked the OCZ forums for the number of people that are experiencing these issues? If you own a Sandforce 2000 series SSD, and it doesnt have an issue, consider yourself one of the lucky ones. Hundreds of people ( in the OCZ forums alone ) are experiencing issues. With proposed fixes of "Upgrade firmware, reset CMOS, re-run WEI, set "this" and "that" in your registry. What kind of "enterprise grade SSD" company suggests those as fixes?

Of course. You're completely right! No need to upgrade even, those drives are very reliable. Your enterprise will surely thrive! Which is it by the way? [shhht - going to short it]

[citation][nom]gogogadgetliver[/nom]/thumbsupDo come back and post if it's looking good ok?[/citation]

I will tonight, as I didn't have time last night.

[citation][nom]mrmessma[/nom]Does this fix SF-2280 also, not just SF-2281?[/citation]

I think it's all based on 2200. :]

I'm still getting BSOD's. -__________-

There is a silver lining though, now after a BSOD the drive seems to be showing up in the BIOS instantly. So I think they fixed, some of the problem. Because before I would sometimes have to power cycle my pc several times in order for the drive to finally show up in the BIOS. Now I don't seem to have to do that. lol The things I'm going through to use this drive.

It's just so fast though..

I'm using an aged AMD build also, so I'm pretty sure that's the majority of my problem. When I upgrade here soonish, I don't expect to have any problems. People with new hardware seem to not have issues?

Your system event log will show an error as the computer is coming back up. Does it log the BSOD *before* the reboot or is that absent? If there is no event while going down then it's almost certainly storage. If it does log an event then it would depend on what the event is.

I get BSOD every day! I own a Vertex 3 240gb drive. I've had it 3 months and now it is more frequent. I'm just about to install the latest firmware, but OCZ says not to use their utility on your primary drive???? ok going through the linux usb way of flashing.. i'll cross my fingers and post in a few days if this solves it
