I have a SanDisk Cruzer 16GB flash drive in need or either a whack with a hammer or maybe some sort of revival. My issue with it is the fact that it is a 16GB flash drive showing 15.8MB of available storage space. It doesn't matter what machine (or Android phone with a dongle) I plug it into, the capacity is stuck at 15.8MB. I had been able to only use it a couple of times for Xbox 360 storage and then once as prepped bootable drive to eventually run Ubuntu. Between wiping the drive for after using it as storage and then once more after deciding not to use it as a bootable drive, I lost the use of all 16GB of space. I have not once used it for Xbox storage. I have even tried reformatting in different formats (NTFS, FAT32, FAT, exFAT) and nothing has changed. I even tried formatting for Xbox One storage for giggles and that did nothing as well. am not entirely sure as to what is going here. I have searched the web high and low for an answer and nobody else seems to have ever had this issue.

What are my options? Is there any recourse for me? Should I whack it with a hammer and see if that works? I am tempted to... it was $20 that is now broken.

Oh, this is a bit embarrassing. It was my mistake. I've misread it as 15.8GB. I apologize for that. Since you've already tried quite a few devices and had no luck with it, it's really possible that the flash drive might have failed. You could give it a go with the manufacturer's formatting tool (most SD card and flash drive manufacturer's offer such tools for their devices), to see if it can fix things up. However, if it doesn't prove useful, I'd advise you to RMA it if it's still under warranty.

Unfortunately, I don't even have that. When I am under the drive's properties, it shows the capacity as "15.8MB" not the usual "14.9GB" like it said before. I know and understand the marketing behind the disclaimer "Actual formatted capacity less" statement so I know it's not exactly 16GB of storage.
