I am going to be building my own system, and I've been waiting for IB release.
Right now, I can get:
-SB i5-2500k for $194.84 (After Tax)
http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0354589
-Gigabyte GA-z68XP-UD3 for $108.24 (After Tax)
http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0366193
=$303.08 Total after tax at Microcenter

I am wondering whether I will be able to find a similar price for the 3570k at Microcenter..
If I am going to have to pay another $75+ for IB CPU and mobo, I don't really think it's worth the wait..

So do you think I can find a similar deal at Microcenter for the 3570k?
If not, would YOU wait or buy the 2500k now for $75 less?

Solution

I don't know if they will have combo's on sale right away, but I see them having the cpu's on sale for walk ins. It's been that way for the past three line's of Intels in regards to Microcenter.

I think IB will be worth it, its really up to you whether or not you want to wait. The new chips will be faster, and will also support PCIe 3.0. (Z68 board WILL support Ivy because LGA 1155)

Ivy Bridge is due out April 29th.

http://www.asrock.com/mb/index.asp?s=1155 <---- Those are Asrocks Z77 and Z75 board line up so far...although they are going to add more boards here soon. Asus, Gigabyte, and MSI also have their boards ready to go. They all get released with Ivy Bridge.

I know they will be the same at Newegg, but Microcenter usually has a discounted price on the CPUs to get you to come to their store. But since IB is new I'm not sure they will do the same deals. If anyone knows whether Microcenter did this deal on SB release that would be amazing.

I doubt that very much. I can't recollect a time in the past ten years or so when a new line of cpu's came out and the prices of the older line dropped significantly in a short amount of time.

That and micro center had deals right away with the 1336, the 1156, and the SB 1155.

So Microcenter should have a deal on IB's release? (On the CPU/Mobo combo?)

I don't know if they will have combo's on sale right away, but I see them having the cpu's on sale for walk ins. It's been that way for the past three line's of Intels in regards to Microcenter.

if your coming from an i3 build and lower then yes it's worth it but if your coming from i5 2nd gen to i7 extreme 2nd gen then no it's not worth it,

if your coming from any amd line then yes ivybridge is worth it.
