Motherboard Foxconn H61M-S
current bios version B93F1P03
do i really have to update the MB in order for sandy bridge CPU to work ?
i have Ivy bridge CPU to do the bios update though.
If you are currently running a Ivy bridge CPU, it is almost sure you'll be able to run a sandy Brige CPU. But I would recommend you to upgrade the BIOS anyways.
Best Regards
Check your current BIOS version and look the supported proc list on the net. If you see your new proc on the list, no need to update the BIOS.
If not, you have to update it. There is no other solution.

If your motherboard is Ivy Bridge compatible, then all you need to do is pop in the Ivy Bridge i5.
You fail to mention brand and model number of the motherboard.

are you so sure it will work, because i think currently the bios verison isn't the newest and prob sandy bridge one.
Petrossa :
To be 100% certain, you can certainly go ahead and flash the newest BIOS version, but from what I read on their site, that board should support the newer chip out of the box.
