Hello everyone,
I've learned alot from the experts here but I need a sanity check on the parts I've selected on a completely new build. I've built computers a long time ago but a lot has changed. I am completely replacing an old Dell XPS Gen3 (don't say it!) I was shooting for >$1500 for the below but since I also need to buy software and a touch screen monitor that causes me to look for cheaper alternatives. Total budget would be $1800 and approximately $600 will be for the monitor and software it looks like.
Approximate Purchase Date: couple days
Budget Range: $1200 (not including monitor)
System Usage from Most to Least Important: watching movies, gaming, productivity software like excel, etc
Parts Not Required: everything
Preferred Website(s) for Parts: newegg
Country: US
Parts Preferences: Can be AMD but future proofing with the I5
Overclocking: Yes
SLI or Crossfire: No
Monitor Resolution: ???x1080
Additional Comments:
Here's my list. Future proofing with the I5. Had to make cuts to the motherboard (was considering $150+ MSI board for PCI-3.0, etc and for Ivy bridge, etc.), a cheaper non-SSD HDD, and lower-powered graphics card. Still wanted blue-ray for movies and an SSD. All prices are from Newegg.
I5-2500K $229.99
MSI P67A-G43 (B3) LGA 1155 Intel P67 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard $115
CORSAIR Vengeance 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 $45
Cooler Master Hyper TX3 $20.00
HITACHI Deskstar 7K1000.D HDS721050DLE630 (0F13178) 500GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive $80
SAMSUNG 830 Series MZ-7PC128D/AM 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) $220
EVGA 01G-P3-1560-KR GeForce GTX 560 Ti (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 ($250.00)
LG WH12LS38 BE-RE 12xBD-R, 16x DVD-+-R $80
Rosewill RNX-N250PCe (RNWD-11005) Wireless Adapter IEEE 802.11b/g/n PCI Express $25.00
LIAN LI Lancool PC-K63 Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case $110.00
CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX650M 650W ATX12V v2.31 / EPS12V v2.92 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified
Modular High Performance Power Supply $110.00
(FYI)
HP L2105tm Black 21.5" 5ms Swivel & Tilt Adjustable Full HD TouchScreen LCD $280
Questions:
1) You guys see any conflicts?
2) OK, the case is probably overkill? but the kids like the blue leds...lol
3) Any good info on Hitachi drives? Was considering WD 500 GBs but nearly 2x as expensive.
4) Wireless adapters are pretty equal. Any difference between PCI and PCIe interfaces?
5) Any experiences with touch screen monitors? HP was about the cheapest.
6) Could save some money on switching to an AMD CPU? Probably wouldn't affect the games I play....
Thanks for your time!
