hey guys, im deciding between two GPU's to buy.

Its either Sapphire 390 Nitro and MSI GTX 980 Ti Gaming

Sapphire 390 Nitro
Pros:
-Cheap
-Will enable me my Freesync support on my monitor
-Can run modern games (while not all) on Ultra with 50+FPS
-Has 8 GB VRAM (altough not that useful since I dont run it at 4K for modern games)

Cons:
-Will get old soon (and by old I mean wont be able to keep up with new games at ultra Settings @ 1440p at 60+ FPS)
-Going with this one, I would only use it as a placeholder Until Pascal or Arctic Islands arrive , and even then they probably will come out at Q4 2016 which is very long , not to mention they might be even more EXPENSIVE than the GTX 980 Ti here, but my knowledge is that transitioning to 16/14nm node is actually a cheaper process and hopefully they would be atleast 550 or 650 $ (and by that I mean high end like GTX 1080 like GTX 980 Ti).
-Crossfiring wont be an option for my 650 W Supernova G2
-NVIDIA S!@#Works (or any NVIDIA optimized games) will sabotage my performance on 390 and I would be forced to reduce quality of games to run it at 60+ FPS
-Freesync is only at 35-90Hz range

MSI GTX 980 Ti Gaming
Pros:
-Ultra powerful card
-Will last me for a few years running games at max settings @1440p 60+ FPS
-Wont be needing to replace it atleast minimum 3 years
-Will benefit more from Gameworks

Cons
-Expensive (730 Euro)
-Will feel regret if Pascal would be cheaper but more powerful than this one
-Would have to game alot to feel my moneys worth if I buy it

Any additional Pros and Cons for these 2 GPU's are welcome from you guys.

If you were to make me choose, I'd go with the 390 just to be on the safe side. Its not just Pascal that will be releasing next year, but AMD as well. Chances are, a better deal will come out 2016.

AAAND, if you're the type who gets the upgrade itch, you won't feel like you'll miss out on anything next year. The 980ti's good too, but you'd be stuck with it for the next 3 years or so. Aside from me having commitment issues, I just think Nvidia charges too much for their GPUs. Unfortunately for us, AMD's close to getting bankrupt, so they can't afford to lower their prices anymore.

I'd say just take your pick, be happy and contented with what you have, then never look back. Its all really just a matter of being happy and contented - something that I learned just recently. LOL

So what do you think AMD have up their corporate sleeve then?

Well currently the games I play are:

-Wow
-CS GO
-SC 2
-Diablo 3

The game I am looking for is The Witcher 3, MGS V and Mafia 3.

I play old games this time and that , but I would always play new games atleast once.

Im only worried that will 390 be sufficient for 1440p 60+FPS (witout AA and with a few settings toned down like shadows, grass etc...)

390 will be more than sufficient for them titles at 1440p.

did AMD or Hynix ever made official statement about it? so far what i know the talk was start by WCCFTECH by going with their trusted sources. AMD might get exclusive deal with HBM1 but i don't think they can easily continue doing so with future iteration of HBM. remember financial wise nvidia have the advantage. what if nvidia agree to pay Hynix for much higher than what AMD can offer? also nvidia are selling more discrete gpu than AMD by 70/30. that is big market opportunity for Hynix. doubt they can ignore that fact just so they can satisfy AMD plan.

EDIT: anyway forgot to mention this:

http://www.tweaktown.com/news/44132/sk-hynix-shows-hbm-2-wafer-nvidias-gtc-2015-event/index.html

if Hynix intend to give exclusive deal to AMD on HBM2 then why did they able to attend Nvidia GTC 2015 showing off HBM2 itself?

so you already have freesync monitors? if that's the caase then probably better going with AMD card. though the game that you're looking to play are going to be GameWorks title. Mafia 3 still not confirmed as nvidia title but Mafia 2 was. the game even have gpu PhysX.

in the tech world, things change quickly. Today you are Blackberry, tomorrow you are irrelevant. ALL consoles run on AMD hardware.

I vote this the most irrelevant statement in the thread.

probably they will later since HBM is part of JEDEC standard.

well mobile world indeed moving very fast. but then again look at reality. AMD might win all the console contract but they still need money to compete with nvidia on PC. AMD is very aggressive in the past. new series each year with new top to bottom product (no rebrand). now? they only come up with news series once every two years and only come up with one new flagship chip while the rest are rebrand of previous gen.

R 200 series is glaring prove such strategy will not going to work out. even with the help of mining craze that makes radeon demand very high to the point AMD can't keep up with the supply they cannot gain much of their market share back. you want more market share? you need new product on the market. period. nvidia understand this point hence they come up with 980/970 despite both are not really that much faster that their previous flagship. but the result? they were able to end the 65/35 stalemate that last for few quarters and push AMD to the new low. latest report from JPR shows the market share between the two was 77.5/22.5.

I second that!
