Sapphire 7970 vapor-x 3gb vs MSI geforce 670 2gb

I need some serious help in picking a new graphics card.

I run a zotac 560TI 448 cores and it's loud and hot as hell and doesn't perform very well in games like BF3 on ultra settings. My hope is to run BF3 at 1920x1080 on conquest large 64 player maps with stable 60 fps (have a 60hz monitor) on as high settings as possible. I want a card that's significantly less hot and noisy than the one I have now. You can disregard the price of the two cards mentioned as they cost almost exactly the same for me. Feel free to suggest other cards aswell in and around that price range. It's going into a Fractal Design R3 incase some cards are too big for it.

I have an i5 2500k cpu OC'd to 4.3 ghz which runs at 60-70 degrees under heavy load, does that sound too hot to you? I have a noctua cooler.

Can I even run any of these high end cards with this PSU? I read somewhere about needing a 6pin and 8pin pci input?

So basicly I don't have a clue here and will give much love to whoever bothers to help me out.

The vapor x is faster and your psu is fine.The 7970 most likely will OC better and it will murder the 670 at high resolution (and has way more compute power), the 670 gives you CUDA , PhysX, TXAA, FXAA, ADap. Vsync etc and lower power draw. No adaptive vsync is some other form of vsync (?) which is what hes talking about. I'm not too sure what it does but AMD has vsync too.

Thanks bigcyco1 I'm really leaning towards sapphire 7970 vapor-x but was worried if my PSU had the right power inputs for it. Singleplayer videos doesn't really 'do it' for me cause even my current card can run ultra somewhat okay there, it's the multiplayer that tanks it.

AMD has a 3rd party thing called RadeonPro where you make a profile for each of your games, it requires some work but gets you the same effect as Adaptive V-Sync.

Keep in mind that the guy in that BF3 video had AA off. I have the 7970 vapor-x and on the new Aftermath DLC I've been getting 70 fps to low 100s. That's with everything maxed. I usually play with v sync on though, and I haven't seen it drop below 60 yet. If it has it wasn't noticeable.

PCI-E 6+2 Pin x2 is on my PSU. So do one 6+2 pin go into an 8 pin slot? And the other in the 6 pin slot? Thanks so much for putting up with my newbness. :x

My 7970 has two 8 pin slots. I think the older ones had one 8 pin and one 6 pin.

Ok, but does 6+2 pin on the PSU mean it goes into the 8 slot on the GPU? I mean it sounds reasonably logical, I just don't want to mess up here.

Yes, if your gpu has an 8 pin connector and the psu has a 6+2 then your fine.

Yes, my psu has two 6+2 pin connectors that I use for my 7970.

I know this post is a bit old now but I just wanted to throw my two cents in, just bought a saphire vapor-x 7970GHz and im loving the card so far. Its twice as fast as my old 560ti in some cases, it never gets hotter than 65C in games normally stays in the 60-63 range. Might get loud in some benchmarks that push the gpu hard but its fine gaming because it stays so cool. Have it overclocked to 1200/1600 with no problems at all never tried to push it more, plus getting 2 free games make buying one much sweeter, only around 440$ on newegg now which is a great deal 320$ after game price reduction. Was going to get a msi gtx 680 lighting but after the latest batch of drivers the 7970 beats the 680 in most of the benchmarks and the 7950 trades blows with the 670 forget about the 660ti.
