Hey folks,

Got this Sapphire 9700 non-Pro for Xmas from my wife and I've been doing some soft-tweaking to it. Got the latest Omega drivers installed and been slowly tweaking it with the Radlinker.

My question is how far can I go without frying the damn thing?

I've got the Arctic Cooling VGA Silencer ver. 3.0 installed and the switch set on high. Very quiet.

Right now I have the GPU at 300 and the RAM at stock. STABLE. No artifacts.

3DMark05 Score 1871 @ 290/275
Aquamark3 Score 30775 @290/275
3DMark01 Score 11233 @ 300/275

All the benchmarks I've used including SANDRA Lite 2005 shows the GPU as a 9500 Pro/9700.

OK,

It's INFINEON DDR SGRAM HYB25D128323C-3.3

The RAM modules are arranged in an "L" pattern. Not in a row like the other cards I've seen.

I believe that's the info you're looking for.

Thanks for the info!

I'll give it a go.

Hey wusy,

I did the benchies last night. The card @ 315/300.

3DMark2001 Score 11113 from 10802
3DMark03 Score 4809
3DMark05 Score 2002 from 1704
Aquamark Score 31095 from 30532

The AC VGA Silencer is still blowing out cold air. Must be my awesome push-pull air-cooling system. The only exhaust that's putting out heat at all is the exhaust fan from the PSU but this has been normal since I bought the setup.

I'll probably tweak it some more till I get artifacts but that's how far I got last night.

you could update the bios to 9700pro,

310-315 on the ram is probrable the max you'll find.

I had my 9700 at ... 380/315 it seems :)

congrats on a great card anyways 😉

Is updating the BIOS similar to a mobo BIOS update?

it is similar, yes. (ie. awardbios.exe in dos mode) but you have to make certain that you get the right bios for your card (ie. 3.3ns version etc.) this is quite important, since installing the wrong bios could stress your card to unpleasant results. On the ram chips themselves is stated the .ns value.

first you have to make sure that the default speed of that certain bios is possible with your card. (9700: 275/275, 9700pro: 325/310)

really it is not at all neccesary to update it, but it looks better in the diagnostic programs :) and of course it keeps your clockspeeds, so that you don't have to overclock it now and again.

wusy already asked me which RAM I have.

I have Infineon w/3.3ns but I just looked into that link you sent me and I'm a bit confused as to which version is compatible. I have the SAPPHIRE Radeon 9700. SiSOFT sees my card as a 9500Pro/9700. The RAM is in the "L" configuration on the board itself.

right, I had Infinion 3.3 too :) I forgot to check the site, they used to have quite Sapphire bios'es. I don't think the ram rayout is relevant the way it was with the 9500Pro.

this one used to be pretty good too:

You can google around a bit too.. just remember to back up your original bios if you choose to give it a shot. If you can't find one, you are just as well off with regular oc'ing 😉
