Hi guys, im building a new rig right now but stuck in the GPU. i decided to put 3 or 4 way crossfire for 7970 the vapor-x one, but it looks more complicated because i shall do watercooling to prevent the heat from the GPU right? or its ok? the thing is GTX titan is a bit expensive i can do 2 way sli but its very expensive for that its out of my budget at least if i get 3/4 way 7970 i can save a bit coins? do you guys have any opinion about this?
Thanks,

most people in here are going to tell you not to do 3-4 way crossfire. i am too because scaling past 2 gpus is not very good. for that reason i will recommend two titans. 1 titan is much faster then 1 7970 and 2 titans will be much faster then 2 7970s.

It's hard to imagine what you need that much GPU for, and I've never done or seen anyone do 3 or 4 way crossfire. But if you had to choose it would likely be best to go with the 7970s. Tom's review of the Titan indicated that two perform the same or better in crossfire than a single Titan, so not only are they good in performance, but are considerably less expensive. A 7970 is around $400, and the water block for it is around $100, so that figures to $500 -$550 per GPU. Four 7970s in that setup would mean about $2000 to $2100. Two Titans alone are going to be about $2000, and a water block on each will run around the same $100 or more.

Also, be careful in considering which 7970 you go after. Some are more expensive purely because of the design of the fan system on them. It doesn't make sense to pay more for a card just because it has a better system of fans and venting, when you're just going to be plucking it off and using a water block anyway. I don't know specifically about the Vapor-X compared to other Sapphires, but you should do some checking to see if there are any actual changes to the layout or clocks of the GPU itself, because I think the Vapor-X might be just an acoustics and better cooling deal, not really performance.

Not counting electricity costs, you could currently get about 1 BTC roughly every 8 days if you had 4 way crossfire with 7970s. Mind you, the rate at which you can mine bitcoins is going down steadily and will only get worse. If you had your rig up and running within a week, had it mining full time while not gaming, i'd guess you could mine possibly 10 BTC by the end of the year. Depending on the price of bitcoins, that would subsidize some (or all if you're lucky) of your 7970s.

I bought a 7970 about a month ago and it's made me about 1.17 BTC so far - so at current rates i've recovered about $130 of the $400 i spent on my card.

yeah i agree but at least that 7970 which is an old card and highly overclockable can beat an expensive niche card Titan right?

if you can see on the youtube there are people who did that quad crossfire of 7970 which is absolutely truffing nuts mate. just confused some says titan will only work with tri-sli or more and i was like wow thats lots of money! there is some type of 7970 the red models one is discontinued i was trying to find it but none i got. anyway 2 effin titans compared to 7970 which is highly overclockable i think can beat titans anyway and youre right its less expensive. anyway if im not watercool the 7970 will it be ok? because i can save money for that in the future.
Thanks mate

-Ok First of all 3-4 Way CF is so MAINSTREAM xD , It takes alot of Electricity as Well Heat Issues as well as Our Great Friend Micro Stuttering .

- The GTX New ''Beast'' Is a Single card and Fastest Now , In SLI it would be great It would kik anythings A** but For SLI it will cost like 2000 Bucks (My Father would kik me out of my House) so alot of money against Performance as well a single titan takes 600 W PSU .

- If u want a Single Card tht performace better It would be 690 it Costs 1000 $ but a Titan in SLI acts better .

-Now U choose , I told every single piece I know Tht could help , Hope it helps and makes u make ur choice :) , Dont just go with anybody's opinion just TAKE UR TIME to make the best Gaming Computer , Good Luck :)

I know right the 7970 consumes more energy than titans. so hows your experience about the 7970? what type of 7970 do you have? anyway thanks mate for the answer really helps.

Regards,

Yeah mate thats the thing ive seen the benchmarks of AMD and the problem is micro stuttering right? Hmm it may be a tough call to guess how many will waste money to get a Titan. shall i wait for 7xx. Well i think in September which there are a lots of new games coming out such as GTA 5. Nvidia play their marketing strategy to show off their flawless cards to the market again with the marketing tricks! well done. anyway thanks for the answer buddy

I have a gigabyte 7970. It's a good card cooling-wise. The new revision (which I unfortunately got) is voltage locked, so overclocking isn't nearly as good as with the older revisions. The best I was able to do is flash the bios to the Ghz Edition version. That worked fine so now I have stock Ghz Edition speeds, but it's still voltage locked and I can't overclock it much higher than it is now.

Wold be gr8 just wait another couple of weeks and we will see the 780 performance , it is made by the Same chip as the titan so it may be fast , Hope it's not a Remake as AMD did xD with HD 8xxx . So wait and see i it's worth it and then make ur choice :)

For the cost and power issues all of you forget about the gtx 690 used around 7/800$ new 1000$ each its a duel card and 2 gets you quad sli and leaves some space in the case for cooling an run cooler then the titan with less power i have run 2 titans 2 rog 7970 the record breakers and 2 690s and the 690s were better at every thing and all the future mark scores and Unigine show it as well
