Sapphire HD7870 (OC-Version or not?)

Hi everyone,

I'm going to upgrade my old GTX460 and have already decided on the Sapphire HD7870.

My question is now: Is the OC-version necessary?
I know that the GPU are the same on both the OC- and the non-OC-version, therefore I should be able to achieve the exact same core- and memoryclock (and Performance) with the non-OC-Version.
I've read, that the coolers might be different (better) on OC-versions.
Is this the case with the Sapphire HD7870?

I'm experienced enough to overclock the card myself, so the warranty doesn't make that big of a difference :)

I'm looking forward to your replies :)

On the 7870's I've seen for Sapphire the stock seems to use the same cooler as the OC edition, if this is the case your thinking is correct, no need to pay extra to achieve the same results. If its like my 7950 though and the stock cooler has 1 fan compared to the 2 on the OC edition, then go with the OC edition. The dual fan cooler works much better than the stock shroud, and is also quieter.

While you say you've already decided on a 7870, you may wanna consider spending the extra $50 and getting a 7950. While seldom used now the extra gig of VRAM on the 7950 will help it last longer into the future.

Thanks man,

I'll stick to the 7870 non-overclock :)
