hi all,

i've been an avid reader of tomshardware for years but this is my first post.

really hope you can help me with this - i've read all the usual forums and am not getting anywhere.

first card down from amazon had the same issues, sent back - second card exactly the same if not worse.

the install is INITIALLY stable, then within a few hours the following....

symptoms:

1) black screen a few times every minute, followed by a period of stability
2) black screen on boot 50% the time (card does not recognise display port)
3) "display driver has stopped responding and has recovered" usually in conjunction with 1)
4) total loss of audio output from the card - happened once (reinstall drivers fixed this)
5) card mostly stable when gaming, have the problem constantly in browser or generally when on the desktop.

steps taken so far:

1) uninstall 14.9 drivers using DDU (delete amd folders), reinstall as admin
2) rollback drivers
3) check for multiple driver installs
4) check all physical connections, change cables etc
5) disable browser hardware acceleration in flash
6) confirmed latest direct x installed
7) checked latest mobo drivers
8) stability test using furmark/prime 95 etc all ok
9) tried hdmi instead of displayport
10) total removal of card results in 100% stable system
11) using different browsers (normally chrome)

system:

new build
win 8.1 64 pro mc
sapphire r9 270x 2gb dual-x oc boost (not oc'ed)
i5 4690k (not OC'ed)
asus z97-a
corsair rm650 gold
asus pb278q monitor
8gb ddr3 1333 cl9 (yes i know these are OLD - upgrade coming!)
2 x 1tb samsung hd103j 7200 hdd
1 x 840 evo 250gb ssd for OS
1 x crucial 64GB scratch disk (photoshop)
4 x 120mm case fans
hypermaster 212 evo

speculation:

my guess is that the drivers are the issue with win 8:
http://

solutions:

1) i'd really like to get this resolved as IF and when the card is stable, it's great VFM - paid £120
2) i don't want to go through sending it back, getting another (third) card and having the same issue
3) given 3) - what do the forums recommend as a replacement?

any ideas greatly received and appreciated!

thanks in advance,

Matt
