Hello toms!,

I recently overclocked my Sapphire R9 270X - dual-x to 1150 MHZ and 1500 MHZ memory clocked with 1213 VDDC or 1.213 volts. The card run 70 - 71 degrees with 74% max fan speed. The stock voltage is 1200 VDDC I got the voltage settings to sapphire R9 270X toxic edition. The card runs a little noisy.

My question is
Will I damage the card?
Will the temps are still good?

The rest of the rig follows.
Case – antec GX 700 – 3x 140MM exhaust - 1 120mm 3600 RPM side intake fan
Mobo – gigabyte B85M-HD3
CPU – intel core i5 4570
G skill ripjaws – x 8 GB

Thank you,

All overclocking comes with a risk.

its is commonly accepted that over clocking will most likley reduce the lifespan of an item. the more agressive the overclock the quicker it deteriorates. This can be offset by better cooling.

It will also depend on how often you have your computer on or playing games. As if the GPU is just idleing then there is no overclock as it drops to ~500mhz.

For a GPU keeping it 80 or under is fine. Obviously the fan runs faster the hotter the card is so if you can stand the noise then it shouldnt be a problem

Thank you for the advise i only activate it when playing crysis 3. when i play need for speed i choose the 1100 mhz clock speed and 1500mhz memory speed using the default voltage 1200 VDDC. the system temp is 59 degrees with 44% fan speed. will a 1.213v probably kill my card during intense gaming?

no but I would consider modifying the voltage to achieve an over clock to be a mid or high range overclocking and would only recommend this for short periods like benchmarking.

Try just a mild over clock without modifying the voltage and see how it goes.

The max overclock for my card without voltage modification is1100 mhz core clock and 1500 mhz memory speed. i tried to make it 1150 without voltage modification i got BSOD.

hey man thank you so much for the advise i think this 1100mhz over clock is enough for gaming @ 1080p. i will buy 2 140mm intake fans so the card runs cooler when intense gaming.

im also running an msi r9 270x, after the newest msi afterburner beta 19, the voltage control is unlocked, any idea on how much voltage should i add? or how much extra is considered safe? thank you

you will not kill your card it take 1.5v to start degrading the copper pipeline in the gpu. also overclock does not hurt the card higher voltages do with high temps keep em below 80-85
