I'm planning on upgrading my gpu from a ASUS 7770 to one of these cards because Im 16 and I just got a job. I play 1080p at the moment (planning on getting a 1440p monitor in the next year or so (any monitor suggestions?)) with an FX 8350 stock (not changing the CPU), 8GB of 1600MHz ram and I have a 600W PSU that I will also upgrade if I need to (spla$hing dat ca$sh moneyZZ). I play DayZ, BF4, Far Cry 3 (Im getting Far Cry 4 when I upgrade the gpu) and I'll get more into PC games when I upgrade. My question is, which gpu do I get? Do I get an Nvidia or AMD card? I'm open to suggestions...
Oh and I will probably crossfire/sli whichever card for the 1440p monitor.

I have the R9 290 Tri-X, it is a great card.
runs only like 77C max, and maxes every game out there

That being said, the 970 is better in every way, unless price is a factor. Unless the 290 is like $50+ less, then get the 970. If the 290 is significantly cheaper, that is your decision then

290 has plenty of life left in it, but it trail a few frames in performance behind the 970.

If you're serious about SLI you should definitely go with the GTX 970, since the blower 970's are pretty decent. The R9 290 is an incredible card, but the blowers you'd want to use for crossfire are truly horrible. Too bad, because 1440p and 4k are where the R9 290/290x really excel.
