I have been experiencing temperatures issues with a R7 260X, specifically high idle temperature readings and temperature spikes while gaming. The card is approximately 1 year old.
The initial problem started a couple months ago with temperature spikes while playing video games. The GPU temp would alternate from about 60-70C, with the fan speed at about 40%, before spiking to about 85-90C. At this point the fan would run hard, at about 80-90% speed, and the temperature would drop back to 60-70C. This pattern would repeat every couple minutes. These temperature spikes did not affect performance, I had no lag or decreased frame rate.
Lately the idle temperatures are reading at about 80C, with the fan speed about 40%. While gaming the fan will still go through a pattern of "revving" but the temperature stays at about 80-90C. This does not affect in-game performance.
I tried opening up the case to feel the heat sinks and the air blowing from the GPU fan, neither feel hot, just slightly warm. I'm not sure if this should be the case.
Could these readings be incorrect, is there any way to confirm this?
I am using "Open Hardware Monitor" and "GPU Temp" to monitor my GPU temperatures. Both show the GPU Core at 100% load all the time.
I have tried cleaning the GPU with an air duster. The computer is in a cool location, CPU shows normal temperatures.
Any insight into this issue would be greatly appreciated. If there is any further information I should provide please let me know.
