Sapphire Radeon R9 290x bf4 edition- Display crashes

I recently built my first pc with a 4690k, r9 290x, msi z87-g45 mobo, and a corsair cx750m psu. Windows 8.1 64bit is the OS. I have everything up and running great at it's stock power. When I run the display through the mobo, everything runs perfect. When I switch to the video card, it runs for a few minutes and goes to a black screen that I can't recover from even if I switch back to the mobo. All my drivers are updated and I've tried switching ports. I've also checked for kinked wires.

It could be a faulty GPU, or a faulty PSU. CX series is budget oriented, so not the best. First try another PSU, see how it goes.

I used a cx and this card but it is the heating on the card not the power supply.
