Sapphire tri-x 290x or evga gtx 780 ti sc with acx cooler?

Right now I have a ASUS 7850 and it really gets annoying to see my friends playing at ultra quality and running 60+ fps where I get stuck at 10 - 30 FPS. I know the 7850 isn't a bad card but I want to upgrade anyway and I have a lot of money in gift cards so 😛

I want to know what would be better the Sapphire R9 290x Tri-x series or the EVGA GTX 780 TI SC with ACX cooler.

Since this is probably the most amount of money I'll be able to spend on computer parts for a while I want to choose the very best and not blow my money and see that the other one was actually better and i'm not waiting for the Maxwell's.

I've been researching a lot but everything I find seems to give me a vague answer.

I want to know if Mantle will be so much better than DirectX that it's better just to have an AMD card.

I know that since the PS4 and Xbox One are now using AMD tech. that most games in the future will probably be made to work better with AMD products rather than Nvidia.

If someone could please provide me with clear answers on what currently is the best right now and if there is not enough information that has been release yet could you please link me to websites where I would be able to see what the latest information is or where the information will be released first it would help me a lot.

And I will be upgrading to a 144 mhz possible a 2560x1600 within the next month so I will be able to take advantage of the better graphics so please help me out.

Why are you getting such poor FPS with a 7850? Can you provide your system specs?

Also, I don't think 2560 x 1600 144Hz displays exist yet.

Even with a 144Hz monitor @2560 x 1600, i don't think there's a single card in the market that can take advantage of this. The 780Ti probably will give you around 50-60fps in most games. If you don't care about Mantle, then you can go with a 780Ti, otherwise if you really want mantle, then 290x.

The R9 290x should give you better performance at higher resolutions, however the 780 TI is also up there with the 290x.

Mantle is set to improve performance in games that are optimised for it.
However, you can scatter the interwebs (like I did) to search for more details on Mantle, and nobody will give you any clear details regarding it.
We will just have too see how it improves performance when it comes out.
Some people (which didn`t seem fanboy`s of any of the teams) were really excited about it.

If you check on the internet, you`ll find out that the estimates of performance increase are between 5% (usually green team fanboys), and 50/60% (red team fanboys/dreamers).

I`m still waiting for the Mantle update in BF4, and hopefully it`s worth it.

At lower resolutions the 780Ti flat out wins the framerate battle. IIRC this includes 2560x1600. As you near 4k, they start to pull even, however.

That said, they aren't that far away from each other, performance wise, so you may as well choose the one that has the best game bundle or is cheaper. Especially if there's a significant price difference.

yeah it was a typo posted at 2 am i mean going to get 144hz or possibly a 2560x1600 display

First Mantle implementation on Battlefield 4 has been delayed to January. But the demonstration by Oxide games looks promising.

I wish more people would do benchmarks with 1440p, all I see is 4k,1600, and 1080p.

Here's a decent benchmark showing the Ti, ASUS DirectCU and Sapphire Tri-X (note that the DirectCU is higher factory OCed 1050 vs 1040). The Tri-X currently has the best cooling available for a 290x.

It looks like the 780 Ti is still reigning as king on games without mantle (I expect that to change with Vapor X and Toxic versions of the 290x), so if you want to spend the extra money, do it. Right now most 290xs are selling at 699$ which is absurd, the MSRP price of the Tri-x 290x is 599$ I believe, so if you can wait a few weeks and stalk the prices, you should be able to get it at significantly less than the 780 Ti and it will only be a few FPS lower in most games.

I really want to see a good benchmark showing a OCed 780 Ti and a OC Tri-X.

Just a note that the 780ti has great overclock potential if you are comfortable with that, Also I heard that the r9's are running very hot with stock coolers so if you go with the r9 290x then get on with a non-reference cooler.

Personally I would go with the 780ti, its what I did and I don't regret it at all.

R9 290x has great Oc potential also... its not exclusive to the 780 ti only. I cannot remember where i read it, but its regarding the temps on R9... Its clocked so high that the temp guard kicks in 1-2min after power on. With proper cooling it will maintain its blistering clocks and freq. (imagine a sweet EK LC block on this x_x) Drooling over a sapphire tri-x and a nickel EK block...

780 ti is the exact opposite. Its clocked relaxed and boosts until a certain temp. (Plz corret me if this is wrong :-D)

Well, regarding frames... 5-10frames over 100 is hardly notice-able. Also comes down to a screens input lag on the hdmi, the hdd that game is located on (Feel free to correct this also, if i forgot to add somthing)

Ask yourself this... Ferrari or Porsche... Weight-ratio or muscle. Both will do very good and does it really matter, when both drive ever so fast (No offense to frame-fanatics :-D)

Last minute sum-up.... 7850 2gb cf will almost yeild power past a reference R9 280x and close to R9 290

Be aware that if the Sapphire Tri-X is the one that they advertise comes with BF4 then Sapphire and AMD are telling a lie. They state on the game code card that comes in the box that you can get the Game product code for download from the date the game comes out... I was unfortunate enough to get the Tri-x from overclockers.co.uk last week and still am having problems. If I could go back in time I would have just paid the extra and gotten 780Ti probably.
