Sapphire VAPOR-X R9 290 OC will it fit? CM K380

so im planning to get this card with a corsair cx750w modular psu and i have a cooler master K380 case so i was wondering will that card fit in my case? Thank you.

I would say MSI are on par with Sapphire, quality wise and the like. Their products normally get rated very highly (especially their lightning version of cards). Based on the plain Tri-x 290X, I'd say the MSI will be slightly warmer (a few degrees), but the VRMs will probably be cooler (how important that really is, I can't say).

That said, I'm not on commission from MSI or anything, so I don't really care too much if you opt for a different card 😀

The cooler master K380 can take 279mm cards in the top slot, and 316.6mm in slots 2-7 if there's not a hard disk in the way (236mm if there is a hard disk in the way)(Source). The graphics card you're talking about is 305mm long (Source).

So, providing slot 2 is where the first x16 PCIe Slot is on your motherboard (as it often is), and where you'll slot in the card, the answer is yes, that card will fit, providing you don't populate the hard disk bays directly in line with where it will go.

Ah, then we have a problem I'm afraid. With your x16 PCIe slot being in slot 1, you're going to be limited to graphics cards that are only 279mm in length I'm afraid. The card you picked out won't fit.

While the cooler itself sticks out further than the actual board, my quick and dirty measurement based on a picture shows that the board itself is still too long to fit (about 10mm too long) While you could potentially mod the case to make it fit, I'm sadly not the person to help with that; not really my area of expertise.

No worries. The MSI cooler is one of the better coolers, from the point of view of both temperature and noise. I know these links are for the 290X version of the card, but the chip's the same, just with a few bits disabled, and the cooler's the same, so the temperature and sound results are still useful.

As for the speed of the card in comparison to the one you linked, well the MSI has a core clock of 1007MHz (when in OC mode), and the Vapor X has a core clock of 1030MHz. That's a difference of only about 2 percent, so nothing you'll be able to easily tell when using them.

I think your luck may have run out 😉 Sadly I can't find any particularly decent quality benchmarks* for that particular card. Any benchmarks of a non reference R9-290 will be pretty similar though, as none of them have a particularly high factory overclock, so try looking some of those up; they'll give you a good idea of things.

*Here's a partially useful one for BF4, but keep in mind it's based on the single player; the multiplayer is a lot more demanding on the CPU. http://www.custompcreview.com/reviews/review-msi-radeon-r9-290-gaming-4g/19995/13/

Well here's the thing i've never owned an MSI product before and i don't know how it would preform compared to the sapphire one temp wise i know fps wise its probabaly 2-4 frames i can live with that but idk man about msi not saying they are bad i just never tryed there products

Yes, your CPU is more than good enough :) Just keep in mind that MSI card is going to be a tight fit, but it should fit. Just take it slow when you try to install it and you should to fine.
