SAS drive on Poweredge failing.

Have a server hard drive showing as failing. I am purchasing the a new one to put in. This is a 2003 server with hot swappable drives. If I put in the new drive will the server rebuild automatically? I am pretty sure this is the case but I wanted to check with the community to verify.

Dell / PowerEdge 2900 running Windows Server 2003 R2, SP 2.0

It will depend on how the drive is used. It could be part of a JBOD volume or it could be part of a RAID volume. You will have to determine what type of volume it is part of.

Yes this is a raid volume

Is the RAID volume created with the Perc RAID controller or is it a RAID volume created by Windows Server? If it is a Perc created volume, then here is an article on rebuild. It should start automatically.

How would I verify that it is Perc Raid?
