I just ordered an ASUS Sabertooth 990FX AM3+ motherboard to accommodate my AMD Phenom II X 6 1100T CPU. The main SATA ports on the MB are SATA 3 (6GB). I intend to get a SSD for a boot drive but I have 4 other HDD's that are old and I think you call then SATA 1.5. Are these older drives compatible with SATA 3 ports on the MB. I just assumed they were compatible.
Thanks for your help with this,

Yes, they are compatible. However, check your mobo and its manual carefully. Many mobo's now come with both SATA 3.0 Gb/s and SATA 6.0 Gb/s ports for HDD's. There are NO mechanical (spinning disk) HDD's that can exceed the speeds of the SATA 3.0 Gb/s systems (and certainly not your older SATA 1.5 Gb/s units), so you should reserve the true 6.0 Gb/s ports of the mobo for really fast devices like SSD's if you have the choice.
