Just bought a new MSI mobo and added a Corsair SSD. SATA 3 cable has a metal "flange" or clip on the cable end that attaches to the SSD. I removed the data cable from the SSD and now the "flange" remains inside the SSD case and I cant re-attach the SATA 3 cable to the SSD because it is "loose" and wont slide all the way onto the gold finger contacts. Any suggestions to make the SATA 3 cable attach to the gold fingers on the Corsair SSD?

Is the flange supposed to be attached to the SATA cable head and just came off when I pulled the cable from the SSD?

What purpose does the metal flange serve? Ive never seen a metal "flange" on a SATA cable head.

Thanks!

So it sounds like the flange on the plug is supposed to "lock" the plug from coming off by itself.

I didnt see the flange and pulled the plug out and I guess the flange pulled off the plug and is now "stuck" in the SSD case.

Maybe this metal flange lock is a gimmick to get more money for SATA 3 cables....

As far as I know, all sata cables are the same. That is they are all compatable with each other. You've been able to purchase sata cables with locking clips long before sata3 drives came out.

This cable was either defective, or you forcibly pulled the locking clip away from the cable. You may be able to pinch the locking clip and remove it from the SSD.

Ill have to use a dental pick to extract the flange that squeezed into the space between the SSD case and the body. Ive used SATA cables for more than 5 years and the plastic plugs always attached and held-all I know is this clip on the plug caused complications because I pulled the plug from the SSD gold fingers and the clip pulled off and remained stuck in the SSD case. The installer used this SATA 3 cable with metal clip and I wasnt aware of that-

Im surprised that I got only 2 SATA cables with my MSI mobo. I cant find a packing list to confirm what I was supposed to get with the mobo as the installer built this rig....
