SATA 3 - Hot swappable? Can i connect my internal HD whilst PC is running.

Hi all, is it safe to connect/disconnect my second HDD on the internal SATA 3 connectors whilst the PC is running? (My boot drive is a seperate SSD).

This is because I'm doing whatever I can to make my PC quiet - even changed the PSU fan for a noctua quiet one and run it off the mobo on a custom curve. Just got watercooling installed (EK XRES, alphacool 360mm MONSTA (80mm thick) rad and a raystorm waterblock. Waiting for Strix 970 waterblocks to come out then I'll do that too. I think i've narrowed down the last noisy thing in my case to the HDD, but I want to be sure. Have the PC running, then plug it in and see if noise rises.

my mb allows me to assign certain ports to be hotswappable if i want in the bios. check to see if yours does.
