sata 300-drive in a sata-600 motherboard?

Well the title explains already a lot.

But I want to use my old hard drive (with Sata-300) in my new computer with Sata-600 on the motherboard. I think it's possible but just for sure i contact you guys,

If it can be used do i have to use the Sata-600 cable in the motherboard into the drive or the Sata-300 cable from the drive into the motherboard?

Should work just fine. Either cable wil be fine.
