SATA Cable Screwed to desktop case? Can I use it?

I'm near the end in the process of transferring the components of my old case into my new one when I suddenly realized that there is no SATA data cable to connect my hard drive to the motherboard. The data cable(s) used for that kind of stuff in my old case are screwed down to the case. I unscrewed one SATA data cable that was used to connect the (DVD drive I'm guessing? -- It was screwed next to the DVD drive tray thing so I'm just assuming this). The one used in the old case to connect the hard drive to the motherboard was screwed down tight and in the process of trying to unscrew it, the weird wire/cord part ripped off :sarcastic:

But anyways, my question is, can I use one of these cords to connect the hard drive to the motherboard in the new case? Was it safe to unscrew the SATA cords from the case? The old case where the cords were screwed down is an OEM case and the new case is a normal DeepCool brand one, btw.

Here's a picture of the 2nd SATA cord's weird wire thing that was screwed down. (Pictured is the ripped off one--it doesn't look like wire of any importance. The silver ring shown above is where the screw held the "cord" thing into place.)

Hello... They added a "extra" ground/shield connection (pigtail) to the SATA cable (pic#1)... this is not typical, and not needed now days? B / if you connect it to your metal case screws (drive rack) some where? Or tape it back to keep it out of the way? try using it either way B )
Thanks for your reply! I know that they're inexpensive, but I just don't want to order one online and have to wait a few days for it to come in the mail in order to use my computer if I don't have to. If anything, could I at least use one of the cords from the old case *for now* until I can get one in the mail?

One last question: could I safely use the 2nd cord (the one that got the ground wire ripped/separated from the screw ring) shown in the last picture? It's longer and the plug part that gets put into the hard drive's SATA data cable port is sloped down for better cable management/lays flat against the case's back panel. That wire is exposed so I want to make sure it's safe.

Hello... Well... safely is different to every one B D

1) Yes... IF all that is missing is the Crimped ring connector... AND there is no other problem at the cable it's 'self... put another ring connector on it OR strip off enough wire insulation to get the bare wire to wrap around a metal case (drive rack) ground screw.

2) Tape off the end of the wire as not to short ground to the MB or caught in a fan.

3) Safest solution is to get NEW and throw those Old (modded) things away. B )
