I've just ordered a SSD to use as my boot drive and a few games etc. When i was looking at available SATA ports i noticed that in the top SATA port there are 2 SATA data cables running from them to a small circuit board type thing which also has a power connection to it.

This board sits on the back part of my bottom drive bay. When i removed the drive bay to see if it goes anywhere, all i could see was 2 ports that had no leads or anything attached to it. Apart from the SATA data cable and a power cable, its not actually attached to anything else.

Does anyone have any idea of what this is?

its a removable hardrive bay for hotswapping , you can disconnect it if you want , mind plug your ssd into sata 0 or 1 , the intel ports not any other brand as they not full speed

When you say the intel ports, do you mean the SATA 6Gb/s ports?

Sorry to be a pain but are you talking about the dark blue SATA ports on my mobo?
