Hi,
I have an old Asus laptop with a SATA slot only.
Is it possible to install a M.2 hard drive with a NVMe connection (to gain the fastest read/write speeds)?
Hope I'm not mixing up technical terms..
Thanks!

Sure it's possible.
Just like external GPU, you can connect an NVME drive to the wifi slot and get an x1 connection but lose performance. You certainly won't boot from it, so it would just be a slow storage drive.

(@remixislandmusic : and the sata controller has nothing to do with it. I think you mean the PCH which may or may not divert resources from sata ports to create lanes for an NVME M2 slot)
