Sata docking stations

I have a sata docking station with USB that Windows 7 seems to recognize at start up, but after a while (anywhere from 1 - 5 min.) the communications is lost, the computer can't find the drive and I get a message that Windows does not recognize the USB device. Is this a driver problem, a hardware problem, or what?

It might be due to the power settings. By default I think windows 7 puts drives to sleep after 5 minutes. Go into the power settings and tell it not to put the drives to sleep and see if that makes a difference.
