I have a WD Blue Caviar 1TB HDD connected with SATA. It was working fine for a while, but all of a sudden my computer is not detecting it. I can't find any help elsewhere on the Internet so here is a rundown of my problem:

The drive is seen in the BIOS.
The drive is seen in Device Manager.
The drive is seen in TestDisk.
The drive is NOT seen in File Explorer.
The drive is NOT seen in Disk Management.

Everywhere I go it seems everyone just wants to say, "Go to Disk Management" but there is no help there at all. Disk Management shows NO evidence whatsoever that the drive exists, so don't tell me to open f***ing Disk Management. The drive's not there. Period.

I've tried updating all the drivers all over my computer and using TestDisk to try to recover the data. TestDisk does see the drive weirdly enough, but at this point I don't care about the data and just want the drive to functuion again. Here are my specs:

Windows 10 x64
AMD A10 7870k
Nvidia GTX 960
G.Skillz Ripjaw Z 2x4GB 2400mHz RAM
Gigabyte GA-F2A78M-D3H Motherboard
Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSD (w/ Windows, working fine)
Seagate Barracuda 1TB (working fine)

If any more info is needed I will provide. Please help me at least be able to format this drive so I don't have to buy a new one. Thank you!

Hey there, Ezio416.

It sounds like a truly unfortunate situation. :(
Do you hear any unusual sounds/noises coming from the drive? I'd recommend that you try the HDD with a different computer, or at least with a different SATA port and different cables on your, to see if the same thing happens.
If you decide that you want to give data recovery another try, you could try accessing the drive via Ubuntu Live USB/DVD, to see if it's properly recognized and if you can get to your files to back them up. Here are some more data recovery software options: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-1644496/lost-data-recovery.html & http://pcsupport.about.com/od/filerecovery/tp/free-file-recovery-programs.htm.

You should try testing it with DLG (Data Lifeguard) by running both tests (Quick and Extended), to see if anything unusual pops-up. Here's how to do that: How to test a drive for problems using Data Lifeguard Diagnostics for Windows.

Please let me know how everything goes.
