I have a Asus B85M-E motherboard and I have two hard drives both connected as SATA. My second hard drive keeps disappearing and to get it back I go to device manager and scan for hardware changes and it will come back. There is no certain pattern for when it does this, it just dissapears randomly. I have switched power cables and switched sata cables and switched sata ports, also switched all of these with my dvd player which always works. Anyway after all this it still does it. I have upgraded the drivers, but all three ATA channels have driver ver.6.1.7601.18231 6/21/2006 and that is the latest drivers I can find on Asus site. The device manager also shows the driver provided by microsoft. Could these drivers be doing this? If it was the drivers why would it be only that one drive. I have tried everything I can think of.
Thanks for any help on this.

That part suggests it is your HDD that's failing. If it was a driver problem it should affect both HDDs same way, and maybe even DVD too. I suggest doing backup of that drive ASAP while you still can.

The HD works fine when it is there. I have ran several tests on it with crystal disk as well as the windows disk check and they all say it is good.
