I bought a gigabyte GA-Z170X-Gaming 7 motherboard; it did not come furnished with 2-port eSATA bulkhead bracket. There are two storage connectors on motherboard that contain both “SATA Express” and standard SATA ports. However, the female receptacles of the “SATA Express” ports are decidedly different than those of the standard SATA receptacles. When I went online to purchase said bulkhead bracket, all the male plugs thereon appeared to be the standard SATA plugs. I contacted Newegg to see if they could provide me with the proper adapter. After a period of time their tech support, announced that they did not have an adapter for this board. Going online to the gigabyte website and entering the “Optional Items” part number listed in their User’s Manual for the “eSATA” bracket (Part No. 12CF1-3SATPW-4*R) returned an “item not found” response. Therefore, does anyone know what the proper plug type is for the MB female “SATA Express” receptacle? Or, better yet, where I could get such an adapter with 12 inch leads???

Solution
SATA express is a standard that never was embraced by manufacturers. IMO, ignore it. It is a dead end that just doesn't know when to leave.
