sata express - first build , connecting ssd and hdd to motherboard problems

I have been working on my first build and think I am just about finished (after many delays) all I seem to have left to do is to connect the hdd and ssd. I have screwed them in and located the sata ports on my motherboard, but I do not seem to have a special cable for sata express. I am a noob so any advice on this is welcome. I have connected a regular sata cable to the sata express, but from what I can tell the sata express is wider than a normal sata port?

also, I do not seem to have an appropriate power cable for the hdd (wd black 1tb) with my psu(corsair cx600m) I have not yet checked the ssd, but it is the ssd I tried to connected to the sata express with a normal sata cable.

ps. my powersupply had some connectors that split, for example, a 6 pin + 2 pin which I used to connected to my gpu. I cant imagine I'm making a mistake here, but thought it best to ask as an aside. THanks in advance.

My motherboard is an asus z97-a with usb 3.1 and my ssd is samsung 850 evo

This is what the power cable to the regular hard drive looks like you can hook this up now but do not connect it to the motherboard with the SATA cable until you get the operating system loaded on the SSD. Same power cable for the SSD as the hard drive look at the pick.

That power supply has 6 connectors that the end looks like this. that is what powers them!

I dont follow. There is on the back a 4 wide and 2 deep stack of pins. I assumed this was for the power connector. What is this for if its not power? And I thought the longer section on the left was for sata express, is this for the power connector you showed in the photo?

That 4 x 2 pin array is irrelevant.
That is a normal SATA drive. The other two spaces are the SATA data and power connectors.

Look at this pick the SATA cable to the motherboard goes on the left side and the power cable goes to the right side this is the only cables you should use on the drive.
