Sata hard drive power question

I am doing my first build. I have a ssd and hdd that will be part of the system as storage (not OS) Is there Any concerns if I power the devices but don't connect the Data cable to my mother board?

I would like to do this initially until I get the OS installed on my boot drive.

Or would it be better to leave both the power and data cables unplugged

SATA cable disconnected, or power cable, or both.
As you wish.
However, when connecting/disconnecting them, make sure that the power is off.
