Win7 OS has 2 drives, a 60G SSD and 1T WD 1003F-ZEX

this PC went through a thermal trip alarm, I had to dissemble to check the cpu and apply thermal grease to the heat sink/cpu join. On reassembly the PC booted up without the D drive.

I checked out the BIOS and the drive isnt there, it is SATA cable connected
I ran the same drive on XP formatted the same NTFS, its not there either
the drive powers up, I just cant get it to the BIOS

It has about 400mb of data I would like to keep
interested in rescuing this drive, Im out of ideas
is it a lost cause?

theyre all set to automatic
just as the primary boot drive is
so the function works, it just isnt picking it up

outside of theres little to do in the bios, it wont search, you cant even select what to make it do

OK I tried a few things with this
I tried disconnecting the boot drive and connecting the slave on the same cables
yet still couldnt see it in the BIOS
I tried a different drive, a Seagate that I know is bad, but it did boot up in the slave position
so we know the BIOS will see other drives but not this one

and something else, I could hear a ticking noise as the drive was rotating
the frequency is about a tick a second, and a kind of swish noise in between the ticks
then after awhile, it powers down

ideas?
