Hi all,
About a year ago my external HDD drive fell from the top of my pc onto the floor. This 1,5 foot drop onto a thick carpet didn't seem so bad at first, but when plugged in, it appeared to be broken. I was pretty bummed out, cause there were tons of audio recordings on the disk, but it wasn't untill yesterday I actaully needed data that is on the disk.
I opened the Lacie casing today and found a Seagate Baracuda 7200 rpm, 500 GB SATA, produced in 2007.
The symptoms are:
-if powered, the disk isn't completely dead. There is humming going on like there used to be when it was working normally, but every +/- 3,4 seconds a beepy/clicky hickup happens. After the hickup the humming start again.. and so on.
-there is no spinning going on
-the disk is not recognized in the BIOS
Obviously, this HDD is broken and not working, but I'm just wondering what is broken about it and if there is a chance the data on it could still be recovered.
Thanks in advance,
Simon
