I bought a 1TB Seagate HDD to use on my HP Pavilion. It currently has a WD 250GB as primary. The mother board is a HP A7V8X-LA and has 2 sata ports 1 AND 2. I connect the red cable to the MOBO and the other to the power source. What is wrong with the the SATA ports that the computer does not recognize the HDD? Thanks to all for your help.

Solution
After the HDD is not recognized by BIOS, you need to try it on another computer in order to make sure it is not a faulty one. If it doesn't appear over there as well, I guess you should RMA it.
If it appears over there, you should double check the connections in case you haven' already done that(both power and SATA cables as well as SATA ports). Another thing you can do is to update your SATA drivers, which you can find on your MOBO's website.

Regarding this program you have mentioned, I don't see why is this related to the problematic HDD. The HDD should appear at least in BIOS(presuming that it is not a faulty one).

Hi there tino200333,

You need to go to BIOS and see whether the drive is recognized over there.
If it is not, you need to reseat the drive. You can try connecting it with different cables as well.
If it is recognized by BIOS though, you need to go to Disk Management -> Initialize -> partition and format the drive.

How to initialize a drive: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=03FYGY

Hope this will help,

To all the replied . I tried to format previously and checked the BIOS except the disk is not recognized. I do hear the disk working. I got no where with those trials. Any other suggestions.

I been working on a solution for 3 days with no success. This community is my last resort and feel confident. I am in the process of creating a disk with the SATA drivers using nLite program. Anyone has experience with nLite?

Solution
It kind of getting too technical of which I am not a repair tech. My last option is talking to a tech if they can correct the problem or return the HDD. Thanks to all that tried to help.

You need a SATA I hard drive. Most of the newer SATA II and III drives won't work, even though they're supposed to be backwards compatible. Two drives that I personally know will work are the 2TB Western Digital WD2003FYYS and the 2TB Seagate Barracuda LP 5900RPM ST320005N4A1AS-RK.

I had both installed in my Presario S6000Z with A7V8X-LA motherboard. However, the computer would eventually slow down because the boot drive would go into PIO mode. It didn't matter if the Seagate or WD was the boot drive. If only one hard drive was used the computer was fine. But with two plugged in the boot drive would eventually go into PIO mode.

My solution was to use an IDE to SATA adapter on the boot drive and a SATA cable for the second drive that was used for storage.

This is the IDE to SATA adapter that I bought at Fry's.
