SATA HDD not seen

I'm trying to install a new SATA drive into my daughter's Optiplex GX270. I've encountered two problems. The first is Windows does not see the new drive. (Whoever the fool was who designed the mainboard locations for the SATA connectors isn't helping matters.) I tried Device Manager and only the IDE drive appears. I'm using the SATA power connector in the Optiplex and new SATA data cable. I've removed and reconnected both cables to make sure they're connected.

The second problem is, even tho' I have a Dell keyboard connected, it will not let me enter BIOS using F2 or the Boot menu using F12.

Suggestions?

Solution
You might need to use a PS2 keyboard because the USB keyboard support might not be enabled.

Also the SATA port might be disabled in the BIOS; therefore, the drive will not show up.

Maybe you need some SATA drivers or try another SATA connector on the mainboard.
The keyboard is PS2? or USB? The PS2 might help you get into the bios where you can select to use the USB keyboard everywhere afterwards.

Some genius at Dell thought it would be cute to require one to enter BIOS and turn on the SATA ports instead of having them live as default. And here I thought the Optiplex series was the business / professional series. How silly of me to think that. The drive works fine. Now if I can just get rid of Windows on the old drive.
