So I'm doing a build right now and I'm running my sata cables. In my mobo manual it lists the different sata ports, each with their own "definition". There are 6 headers/ports on the mobo. The manual reads as follows.

Pin 1 - GND
Pin 2 - TXP
Pin 3 - TXN
Pin 4 - GND
Pin 5 - RXN
Pin 6 - RXP
Pin 7(?) - GND

So my question is, does it matter which ones I use? I'm connecting a SSD, a HD, and an optical drive.

Solution
All SATA connectors are the same (unless you have SATA Express). You should not have to look at the pin-out, and there should never be any actual pins sticking out, only the SATA connector.

Now, that doesn't mean all SATA connectors have the same speed, so check only that. Also avoid non-intel ports for the boot disk and optical drive.
