My SATA M.2 drive is not showing up in windows, or in the BIOS.

My motherboard is an Asus ROG STRIX b360i gaming. Which has 2 m.2 slots. Ive tried using both.

Most people suggested I change the settings from AHCI to m.2 but my BIOS does not have that option. Only AHCI and Intel Optane.

Any and all suggestions welcome. Really pulling my hair out here!

The M.2 itself should have settings in the BIOS - where you can select "Auto", "SATA" or "NVME".
I can't remember where it is specifically, but it used to be in a sub-menu somewhere.
*EDIT* Potentially under "advanced" then "onboard devices configuration" ?

While your motherboard has 2x M.2 slots, only one supports SATA drives. One slot is SATA or PCIE, the other is PCIE only.
Only the slot labelled M2_1 can support SATA drives on that board, as per manual found here:
https://www.asus.com/ca-en/Motherboards/ROG-STRIX-B360-I-GAMING/specifications/

I am only seeing it support PCIe NVMe M.2, not sata from the spec

M.2 Socket 3 Type M (2242-2280)
Supports PCIe 3.0 x 4 mode

Oh@ make sure you have it in the port that supports SATA (closer to cpu socket) or it wouldn't show

https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/ROG-STRIX-B360-I-GAMING/

look at that page, there are 2. one supports both PCIe and SATA, use that one.

Thanks for the speedy responses!

Like I said, I've already tried using both of the M.2 slots. Updating the BIOS didn't help either.

The only settings I could find in the BIOS that even mentioned M.2 only gave an enable / disable option.

What is the second M.2 slot for? I'm looking for a second M.2 SSD to add but I'm getting real confused about that slot. Can I put a second SDD in it? If so, what kind?
