SATA not detected in BIOS

I'm putting together a PC with parts I have had around for a bit. I have an issue I can't resolve. The MB has never been used previously is an ASUS M3N-HT Deluxe/HDMI. It sees a small IDE drive and an IDE CD drive. I've installed WIN7 and the PC runs. I need to add additional HD's but cannot get the MB to recognize anything on any of the SATA ports. I've tried 3 different drives, 3 different sets of cables. I've switched from IDE TO RAID TO AHCI and nothing. The manual refers to an onboard Nvidia RAID controller but I don't have the original support CD and know little about a RAID setup.

Anyone have any advice on how I can get my SATA drives working? I'd prefer to put my OS on one of the SATA drives I only used the IDE in order to get the PC up and running.

Yes. I initially wanted to use one of the SATA drives but when I couldn't get them recognized, I installed the IDE to update drivers and the BIOS. Still nothing from the SATA ports.

The drives don't even show in the bios, I just read almost all your motherboard manual and there is no extra information or jumper to activate or anything of that sort, could be that the motherboard is defective?
If you have older sata disks or sata dvd drive give them a try.

One thing I'm not certain on is if I've tried just the one SATA drive after I was able to update the BIOS. I will try that tomorrow.

Question ... When i try it, should I choose IDE or AHCI in the BIOS?

It is possible it's defective. I'm not sure how I'd test that theory??

If it is, could I add a RAID controller and use it to run my HD's?
Or do you have another suggestion?
BTW, I appreciate your assistance!!

Good idea, updating the bios, reverting to older bios, resetting it to defaults or clearing CMOS (the right way) are all legit routes to explore,
Turning off computer completely (disconnecting power outlet) between configuration changes while testing is good practice too.
Also trying both sata and AHCI in the bios every time.
You too thanks for your feedback.

I did originly, but that was before I updated the BIOS. When it didn't recognize the drive, I read the BIOS needed to be updated to read drives larger than 1 gb, which both I had tried were. I've since flashed the BIOS to the latest. I can't recall if I've tried just the one drive since it was updated. I'll try that tomorrow.

I went through from start and tried every option I know. I might be missing something as I've not built a PC in a while. I'm open to any ideas. Or a method by which I could determine the SATA ports to be bad.

Anyone know my best option to add at least one additional storage device to this PC? An expansion card? Adapter? I'm open for suggestions on resolution or a work around.

I've previously downloaded every driver listed. I reinstalled just to check. There are Nvidia storage drivers. But no change in results.

I assume without the drives being detected by the MB, the drivers aren't utilized.

I'm going to find some smaller SATA drives. Perhaps this MB has limitations on the size it can recognize. And/or install a larger IDE drive, giving up on a SATA resolution for now.

Any suggestions for a better resolution are appreciated.
